Flamingo Pier call Aotearoa home but first formed in London in 2014, cutting their beaks by throwing parties on a floating pontoon on an East London canal in Hackney Wick.
“The pontoon was the ‘pier’ and we decorated it with neon flamingos,” hence the name, the trio tell me.
Luke Walker, Dominic Jones, and Brad Craig have spent more than a decade building dancefloors around the world for collaborators, artists, and music-lovers to come together and form lasting connections. It’s that global community that the disco-boogie dance collective will celebrate on their sophomore record Woven Together – a little darker than their debut but still sprinkled with “plenty of light and joy”.
Having previously worked with record labels, Flamingo Pier are independently releasing the new album, “so there’s been a lot of work to get to this point”. They feel excited and relieved to be on the home stretch and “ready to play these songs live and see how people respond to them”.
Pōneke gets the first peek when the euphoric six-date, full-band tour opens here on release day: October the 9th.
“Meow Nui looks like such an incredible space to play in”, Flamingo Pier rave. “We’ve heard nothing but good things and we always have the best crowds in Wellington. The capital has been good to us! Feels like an ideal place to play the new music live for the first time (alongside plenty of fan faves from our back catalogue).”
