Lana Del Rey has been Pōneke-based drag queen Olivia Dreams’ most listened-to artist for six years straight – Spotify Wrapped confirmed. “Since starting drag I never saw anyone perform any of her songs,” the performer and producer says, which is why she proudly presents Lana Del Rey: The Drag Show – here to give you a heaping dose of Summertime Sadness.  

Known as the Takatāpui Titan from Te Tai Tokerau, Olivia Dreams considers the American singer her guilty pleasure.

“I’ve really been digging her song Thunder from her latest album, but I would definitely say my all-time favourite Lana song is Born to Die. Cliché, I know, but there’s a lot of emotions tied to that song for me,” she says.

Though she knows Lana Del Rey and drag don’t exactly go hand in hand, she’s well aware that drag performance and the alternative pop legend have a fanbase crossover, “so I thought why not give it a shot?”

At Ivy Bar and Cabaret on the 27^th of January, Lana Del Rey: The Drag Show features a line-up with a Lust for Life performing sad girl bops, cinematic sonatas, melancholic melodies, and tragic romance rhythms. Joining Olivia Dreams are multi-award-winning drag king and burlesque bro Robin YaBlind, Wellington’s favourite swervy and curvy aunty Yonic K, the acclaimed Matron of Monsters Amy Thurst, and Hariel, strutting her sea legs to make a splash.
